Life at Salisbury Women's Refuge

We want to make every woman and child's stay with us as comfortable as possible. We understand how hard it is to leave one's home, possessions and support network suddenly, and we help as much as we can. With the support of our local community, we have small supplies of food, clothing, toys and essentials, to help arriving families.

We also help with essential life skills such as claiming benefits and settling children into local schools and nurseries.  We tailor plans for women and their families to reach their goals, a priority being to live without fear of domestic abuse. We also assist women in preparing to get ready to live independently and help them prepare for their housing needs.

We offer support in multiple ways: we have a counsellor and play worker and we discuss domestic abuse and how to recognise the signs. We support women to recover and empower them. While at the Refuge, we will also work with residents to manage their finances and plan their futures with training or getting back to work.

For everyone's safety and comfort, we have a few house rules that we explain to new residents when they arrive. Since we all share this space, it's important that everyone understands and agrees to these guidlines.
